KOZHIKODE: The claim of UDF mayoral candidate V M Vinu to Kozhikode Corporation, casting votes in 2020, falls apart. The documents disproving his claim have emerged. Vinu told media yesterday that he had voted in Malaparamb in the local body elections in 2020. However, Vinu did not have vote in the elections either. A document proving that his name was found missing in the voters list in 2020 has now emerged.
The Congress alleged that V M Vinu's name was removed from the voters list. This had sparked a big controversy. His name found missing was noticed when the new voter list was released. Vinu's question was that he has been voting for 45 years and who has the right to deny him vote. However, it is clear from the documents that Vinu's name was not in the draft voters list in 2020 and 2023. Vinu had said that he would approach the high court on the issue.
The Congress brought prominent figures to the fore to put an end in the LDF rule that has been going on for decades. However, his name missing from the list has left the UDF camp in disarray. Meantime, there are allegations among the cadres that the Congress and the UDF failed to check whether Vinu's name is in the draft voter list published in September. Especially since the Congress itself has alleged that there are widespread irregularities in the voter list.
However, Congress leaders said that there is no need to check whether Vinu, who has been voting regularly, has vote. The initial check will focus on those who have shifted houses, married people, dead people, those who have demolished their houses, and new voters. DCC President Advocate Praveen Kumar, leaders K Jayant, P M Niyas, K Balanarayanan and others said at a press conference that voters who have been voting for years and permanent residents are not usually checked.
