THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Education minister V Sivankutty on Monday spoke against the state-wide education bandh (strike) called by KSU to protest the Plus One seat crisis in Malabar.

"KSU's education bandh is against the student community. Students and general society will reject the bandh. Actual figures for Plus One seats are in the public domain. Anyone can check it. Matters including figures have been clearly presented in the Assembly. The MLAs who presented the matter have been convinced of the figures," V Sivankutty said.

"The admission process is progressing in a transparent and scientific manner. The Department of General Education is trying for Plus One admission for all those who have qualified for higher studies. The government is ready to listen to the concerns of student organizations and take remedial measures if necessary. The Minister of General Education is going to directly discuss with the student organizations. But the fact that the KSU announced an education bandh even before that meeting points to the lack of sincerity on the issue. This is a move to taint the education sector," Sivankutty added.

KSU State President Aloysius Xavier ba said that the bandh has been called to protest the police action in the strike related to the seat crisis. He also stated that if the seat issue is not resolved, they will go on an indefinite strike.
