Heavy rain predicted in Kerala today, holiday declared for educational institutions in one more district

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Heavy rains are continuing in various districts of the state. The collector has declared holiday for educational institutions in Wayanad following heavy rains. With this, seven districts will remain closed today. A holiday was declared in Kannur, Kozhikode, Thrissur, Malappuram, Ernakulam, Kasaragod and Mahi. Soon a holiday was declared in Wayanad due to heavy rains.


Meanwhile, a warning has been announced that there is a possibility of heavy rain with thunder and lightning at isolated places in Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam in the coming hours and strong winds with a speed of up to 40 km per hour. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) warns of possibility of moderate rain with thunder and lightning at isolated places in Alappuzha and Ernakulam with gusty winds of up to 40 kmph, in all other districts moderate rains with gusty winds of up to 40 kmph.


A special alert has been issued for the coasts of Kannur and Kasaragod. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Research Centre has warned that high waves and rougher seas are likely. The National Oceanic Survey and Research Centre informed that there is a possibility of a high wave of 3.3 to 3.6 meters on the coasts of Kannur and Kasaragod tonight from 11.30 pm to 08.30 am on 16-07-2024.


The coasts of Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Alappuzha, Malappuram, Kozhikode and Kannur are warned that there is a possibility of high waves of 2.6 to 3.3 meters and sea storm from 11.30 am today to 11.30 pm on 16-07-2024.


Special alert on Kanyakumari coast
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Research Centre has informed that there is a possibility of 2.7 to 3.1 meters high wave and storm surge along the Kanyakumari coast on 16-07-2024 till 11.30 pm.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Research Centre has informed that there is a possibility of Kallakadal phenomenon and high waves on Kerala coast and Tamil Nadu coast till 11.30 pm on 16-07-2024. Fishermen and coastal residents in these areas should exercise special caution.
