THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Transport Minister Antony Raju says VIPs will not be exempted from fines through AI cameras. The Minister clarified that vehicles other than those prescribed by the Central Act will not be exempted from the scope of AI cameras under any circumstances. He said that the same practice is still going on and he has also received fines for traffic violations after becoming a minister.
AI camera detects law violations. If that happens, action will be taken without any consideration. "I have also received fines since I became a minister," the minister continued. There is no special treatment for VIPs or non-VIPs in front of the AI cameras. Only emergency vehicles are exempted. He also said that even the consideration given to VIPs during road inspections is not possible in the case of AI cameras. VIPs cannot be exempted by any official just because they are subject to audit. Minister Antony Raju added that the project is being implemented for transparent and non-discriminatory traffic law enforcement.
AI cameras across the state will start collecting fines from eight o'clock tomorrow morning. 692 cameras are operational currently. 34 more need to be operational. At the same time, Antony informed that one child will be allowed to travel along with the parents in the two-wheeler and no penalty will be imposed for that situation. Children under 12 will not be fined, but children over four must wear a helmet.
