
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A Rs 10,000 crore development project will be implemented when the next phases of the Vizhinjam port are completed. The current 800-meter berth will be increased by 1,200 meters to become 2,000 meters. With this, several large ships will be able to unload cargo simultaneously. The 2.96-kilometer quay will be increased by 920 meters. Phases two, three and four will be completed by 2028. With this, luxury ships will also be able to dock at Vizhinjam.
The next phase of construction work will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan at 4 pm on the 24th. Karan Adani will attend the function. Minister VN Vasavan will preside over the function. The inauguration of EXIM cargo services, which will enable import and export from the port, and the new port road built to the National Highway Bypass will also be held at the function.
The annual capacity of the port will increase from 15 lakh TEUs to 50 lakh TEUs when the next phases are completed. Railway yard, multi-purpose berth, liquid terminal and tank farm have also been included in the second phase.
