VARKALA: SNDP Yogam General Secretary Vellappally Natesan said that the reason for the setback to the Ezhava community was that they voted based on the symbol while other groups voted based on the name. He was delivering the presiding speech at the Yogam branch leadership meeting of Sivagiri, Attingal and Chirayinkeezhu unions.

"The fronts will use the Ezhava community as a ladder to come to power. Once they come to power, the Ezhavas will be neglected. We should mobilise communal strength and fight for social justice. The community must get representation proportional to the population. Speaking of caste should not be seen as an insult, but as a pride.

The Vaikom Satyagraha is described as a struggle for freedom of movement. One person who spoke the truth of that struggle is Pinarayi Vijayan, at the centenary program of the Vaikom Satyagraha. The struggle actually started because the path of Sree Narayana Guru Devan was blocked. The great TK Madhavan went to meet Gandhiji and got the Congress to take over the struggle.

Those who ruled Sabarimala are stealing as they please. Some are saying that the Devaswom Minister should resign. Vasavan is a popular minister who treats everyone with dignity and equality without raising any objections.

Shafi went and got beaten up to become the chief minister. This struggle will continue like this until the local body elections are over. If we are not careful not to let the League come to power, our future is in danger.

We should try to win positions of power without losing our political beliefs. We should fight to regain what was lost and get social justice without forgetting the past history of SNDP Yogam," said Vellappally.

Yogam Vice President Thushar Vellappally gave an organisational detailing, and Devaswom Secretary Arayakandi Santhosh gave an organizational message at the meeting held at the Varkala Vattaplamoodu Mookambika Auditorium.
