WhatsApp number system for reporting waste dumping; Rs 1,29,750 given as rewards so far

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Local Self Government Department's single WhatsApp number (9446700800) system for reporting waste dumping has completed one year. The fine imposed so far is Rs 61,47,550. A reward of Rs 1,29,750 has been given to those who provided information with evidence. Prosecution proceedings have also been initiated in 63 incidents. The total fine imposed in a year for waste dumping is Rs 11.01 crore. 5.58% of the total fine was imposed based on the complaints received on the WhatsApp number.

Minister M B Rajesh congratulated all those who reported complaints through WhatsApp. The Minister requested them to report violations through WhatsApp and avail the opportunity to win rewards.

The highest number of violations reported through WhatsApp was from Thiruvananthapuram (2100) and Ernakulam (2028) districts. The lowest number was reported from Wayanad district (155).
