KANNUR: Locals and officials turned to each other as an intense scene happened on Aaralam farm in Kannur. Yesterday, a farm laborer was stomped by a wild tusker to death. The cremation was about to happen today when the skirmish took place between locals and the officials. The repeated incidents of wild elephants roaming and attacking the human habitat have been neglected by the officials.

The police and the forest officials who reached the spot for cremation were asked by the locals to go back. The protest morphed an intense tone and the police were left with no option but to retract. In the past few years, more than 12 people died from attacks by wild elephants.

Yesterday, a farm laborer Raghu went to gather wood inside the forest area when he was ambushed by a wild giant.
