Will remain behind bars: No bail for Rahul Easwar who cyber-harassed sexual assault victim

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Rahul Easwar, who was arrested for cyber-harassing the woman who had filed a sexual harassment complaint against MLA Rahul Mamkootathil, has been denied bail. The petition was considered by the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate's Court. Rahul Easwar has been in jail for the past seven days. Rahul had withdrawn his bail application filed in the District Sessions Court.

Rahul Easwar's lawyer argued in the court that he had only read the FIR video of the Rahul Mamkootathil case. Rahul Easwar argued that the information in his posts is from the police FIR and that he has not done anything illegal. The defence claimed that Rahul Easwar is cooperating with the investigation, and he is ready to remove any video or photo related to the victim, and should be granted bail since the documents requested by the police have been found.

However, the prosecution pointed out that the action of the accused, who is a lawyer, was a challenge to the legal system and a deliberate act. The court said that the FIR in the sexual harassment case cannot be considered a public record. The prosecution argued that the petition should not be considered in a situation where even the bail application is illegal. "The accused is not cooperating with the investigation. He is not willing to provide the password of the recovered laptop. This is seriously affecting the investigation," the prosecution informed the court.

The police have registered a case against Rahul Easwar under the sections of insulting femininity and intimidation. He has also been charged with misuse of electronic systems. This is an offence punishable by imprisonment for up to two years. The cyber police registered the case based on a complaint filed by the sexual misconduct victim, who alleged that personal information was disclosed.
