Woman dies during surgery in Mavelikkara, family alleges medical negligence

ALAPPUZHA: A young woman died during a surgery at Mavelikkara VSM Hospital on Monday. Dhanya (39), a native of Thrikkunnapuzha, died during a kidney stone removal surgery. The shocking incident led to a protest from the young woman's relatives, who alleged medical negligence. The family also filed a complaint with the police. The police said that further action will be taken after the postmortem.

Meanwhile, the hospital authorities denied allegations of medical negligence. The relatives had signed the agreement for the keyhole surgery. After the surgery began, a blood vessel ruptured. Dhanya was then subjected to open surgery. Death occurred shortly after the completion of the surgery. Doctors said the cause of death was a heart attack.
