Woman dies tragically after car crashes into compound wall in Varkala

VARKALA: A woman died tragically after a car crashed into a compound wall after losing control. The incident took place near Cherunniyoor Mukkada MLA Road in Varkala on Sunday. The accident occurred at around 1.30 pm yesterday when Hameed Kunju and his family were returning to their son-in-law's rented house.

Laila (50) of Kallupurackal, Alappuzha, died in the incident. Laila's husband, Hameed Kunju (65), son Shafin (30) and grandson Abdul Rahman (17), who were in the car, were injured. The car doors were left jammed after the crash, requiring great effort from locals to bring out the injured passengers.

Laila was taken to Varkala Taluk Hospital, but her life could not be saved. Hameed Kunju's hip bone was seriously injured. Shafin and Abdul Rahman have head injuries. All three are being treated at Sivagiri S.N. Medical Mission Hospital. Locals say that the accident might have occurred after the driver confused the brake for the accelerator.
