PATHANAMTHITTA: A woman subjected to two surgeries in a week died Sunday early morning. Her relatives alleged medical negligence, while the hospital claimed that her death was caused by post-surgical complications. The incident happened at Kozhencherry in Pathanamthitta. The dead is Maya (58) of Kalappamannu in Angamoozhy. Her relatives turned against the private hospital in Kozhencherry.

Maya was admitted to the hospital last week for hysterectomy. Her relatives said that she came walking to the hospital with her daughter. Her uterus was removed and after that she had abdominal distention and developed high fever. Following that, the doctors advised for a scan. The scan showed a hole in her intestine.

The hospital authorities later recommended another surgery and it was performed yesterday. She was later on ventilator and died Sunday early morning. Her family alleged that the second surgery had to be performed due to medical errors and this led to her death. However, the hospital authorities said that there were complications after the first surgery, which is why the second one was performed. They clarified that they got permission from her relatives.
