KOCHI: More information has emerged in the case of murdering a three-year-old girl by throwing her into the river. The girl’s mother Sandhya is suspected to have planned the murder. Before reaching Moozhikkulam, Sandhya had reached Aluva Manappuram. The auto drivers said that she was seen in a suspicious circumstance. When they inquired her the matter, she soon left the place with Kalyani. It is suspected whether Sandhya planned to abandon her in Periyar.
Sandhya threw Kalyani into the Chalakudy River on Monday at 7 pm after picking her from Anganawadi after school. The police found her body early Tuesday morning at 2.15 am stranded in a pillar in the middle of the Moozhikkulam Bridge in between the branches of a tree. The body was brought home at 3.30 pm on Tuesday after postmortem in Kalamassery Medical College. The body was kept in her ancestral house and cremated at Thiruvaniyoor Crematorium at 5 pm. Ashokan, a relative and neighbour said Sandhya had attacked her child earlier also.
‘Sandhya is a quiet and reserved person who rarely spoke to anyone. She had hit her with a torch on her head. She had tried to kill Kalyani earlier by lacing poison in ice cream. Her elder son saved his sister then. After seeing this, Sandhya’s mother-in-law dropped her and her children at her house. A complaint was lodged to the police. They sent her for counselling. She was not seen to have any mental issues. The behaviour of her mother and sister are suspicious,’ said Ashokan.
