YC protest demanding resignation of T'puram Mayor turns violent, police fire water cannon

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Clashes broke out during the Youth Congress protest demanding the resignation of Mayor Arya Rajendran over the letter controversy in the corporation. Police fired water cannons at the protesters.

The Congress workers broke the barricades and pelted stones at the police, and the police fired tear gas. The corporation march led by the Youth Congress district committee demanding the resignation of the mayor who had violated the oath of office turned violent.

Youth Congress state president Shafi Parambil MLA inaugurated the corporation march. After the inauguration, there was a push and shove between the police and the activists which led to a lathi charge. Protests have been going on in the capital for more than a week demanding the mayor's resignation.
