Yellow alert in 11 Kerala districts; temperatures may touch 37 Degrees Celsius

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The state is witnessing an unprecedented summer, with temperatures soaring to new highs, leaving people distressed. A yellow alert has been declared in Kollam, Kottayam, Palakkad, Thiruvananthapuram, Alappuzha, Pathanamthitta, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Malappuram, Kozhikode, and Kannur districts. The temperature may rise to 37 degrees Celsius in the Kollam, Kottayam, and Palakkad districts. The temperature may rise to 36 degrees Celsius in the districts of Thiruvananthapuram, Alappuzha, Pathanamthitta, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Malappuram, Kozhikode, and Kannur.

The Meteorological Department warned that temperatures may rise by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius above normal. The high temperature will continue in the coming days. The highest ultraviolet index is recorded between 10 am and 3 pm. Therefore, avoid direct sunlight on your body during those hours whenever possible.

Prolonged exposure to ultraviolet rays can cause sunburn, skin diseases, eye diseases, and other health problems. The public should take safety precautions. Those who work outdoors, fishermen engaged in sea and inland fishing, those involved in water transport, bikers, tourists, people with skin diseases, eye diseases, cancer patients, and other groups with weakened immune systems should be especially careful.
