Youth dies after falling into gorge in Thamarassery Churam

KOZHIKODE: A youth on a pleasure trip died after slipping and falling into a gorge. The incident occurred at 1:30 am Sunday at the mini view point near the ninth bend of the Thamarassery pass near Kuppikkazhuthu. The dead is Amaljith (23) of Vadakara. He slipped and fell while standing on the roadside to urinate.


Amaljith was a driver in a private company in Kozhikode. The accident occurred when he was going to Wayanad with his colleagues. There were 13 people in the vehicle including Amaljith. The youth slipped and fell to a depth of about 60 feet. The Kalpetta Fire Force arrived to rescue Amaldas and Prasad, who tried to save Amaljith, to bring them to the top.


The Adivaram Out Post Police and the Thamarassery Highway Police reached the spot and carried out the rescue operations. Amaljith sustained head injuries. After bringing him to the top, he was taken to Thamarassery Taluk Hospital but his life could not be saved. After the Thamarassery police conducted an inquest, the body was shifted to the mortuary of the Kozhikode Government Medical College. He leaves behind his father Ravi and mother Suma.
