ALAPPUZHA: The car accident in Kalarcode turned tragic on Monday night after a car collided with a KSRTC bus claiming the lives of five medicos. Other five medical students injured are undergoing treatment. The lives of ten students who had come to pursue MBBS with high hopes changed overnight.
The statement of the student injured proved that the locals' finding that only ten were in the vehicle, was wrong. His statement said there were 11 in the car. Shane Denster, a native of Marianad in Thiruvananthapuram, was the 11th person and the sole survivor. Shane was the only one who escaped without any injuries.
Even while the locals were carrying out rescue operations, no one suspected Shane to be in the vehicle. He is presently unable to recount details of the accident. He got into a vehicle that came that way and reached the hostel. Without saying anything to anyone, he went inside the room and closed the door. Based on the statement of the injured student, his friends came in search of him in the hostel. He was unable to speak. Shane was immediately taken to the hospital. Shane suffered a mental injury, is presently under the observation of the doctors. Medical college authorities said that he is being treated to overcome the mental trauma.
The accident occurred around 9:30 pm on Monday after a car collided with a KSRTC bus at Kalarcode in Alappuzha. The students' Tavera car overtook another vehicle at high speed and applying a sudden brake led the vehicle to skid to the right and hit the oncoming bus. The left side of the car hit the bus. There are also reports that heavy rains also wreaked havoc.
The dead were first-year students-- Devanandan (20) of Malappuram Kottakkal Sree Vaishnav (Pala, Mattakkara Poovakkulam family member), Sridev Valsan (20) of Srivihar, Shekarapuram in Palakkad, Ayush Shaji (20) of Kottayam Poonjar Chennad Karinguzhikkal, Mohammed Ibrahim (20) of Pakrichiyapura House, Androth Island, Lakshadweep and Mohammed Abdul Jabbar (20) of Pandyala House at Vengara in Kannur.
