KANNUR: Reports say the mandalam committee is against fielding P K Shyamala in Taliparamba. Her candidature is opposed in the backdrop of criticism for not having any contact with the people. She is wife of party state secretary M V Govindan. However, the decision is to start campaigning in the constituency tomorrow. P Jayarajan is in-charge of the constituency. The list of candidates in Kannur was approved by the district committee yesterday.

The party did not accept K K Shailaja’s request to contest from Mattanur constituency. The party decided not to field Shailaja as she had completed two terms and that it was a sure seat for the party. The party had informed that if she is willing to contest from Peravoor, the two-term condition could be relaxed. Shailaja has accepted this proposal.

Meantime, when M V Govindan withdraws from CPM’s sitting seat Taliparamba, fielding his wife instead is triggering dissent among the activists. Although there is opposition in fielding T I Madhusoodhanan from Payyannur, there is no change. The names of DYFI state secretary V K Sanoj in Mattanur and district secretariat member Karayi Rajan in Thalassery have been proposed.
