NEW DELHI: The Congress has taken a final decision regarding the candidates for the assembly elections in Kerala. Former KPCC president K Sudhakaran MP does not have a seat in Kannur. Reports say that after marathon discussions, the Congress high command has decided that none of the MPs should contest. The decision was taken after Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge took a strong stand that none of the MPs need to contest the assembly elections.

The final decision on the candidates for six seats, including Perumbavoor, has been left to the high command. The marathon discussions held at Mallikarjun Kharge's residence ended at 2.15 am. KPCC President Sunny Joseph told media that no one has been decided for the disputed constituencies and discussions are continuing on four or five seats. Kharge is of the opinion that only two MPs from Kerala cannot be given concessions. Rahul Gandhi also has the same stand. The leaders had explained the situation in Kerala.

The second phase of the Congress candidate announcement will be held today. Kannur was not included in the first list of candidates announced by the Congress. The Kannur assembly constituency is a stronghold of the UDF. The constituency was lost to internal problems in the Congress twice. The cadres are worried that the situation will repeat this time too.
