THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Amid the Mayor's letter controvers, a special corporation council meeting is scheduled to be held this evening. The opposition's stand is that accused Mayor Arya Rajendran should not preside over the meeting. The CPM suggested that the LDF's women councilors should defend the Mayor in case of a conflict situation.
The direction was given in a meeting of LDF councilors held at the CPM district committee office yesterday ahead of the council meeting.
A meeting of left councilors was held yesterday under the chairmanship of the district secretary of the party, after CPM state secretariat decided to defeat the opposition strike over the mayor's letter controversy. A meeting of CPM councilors was held at 3 pm and LDF councilors after 4 pm. Minister V Sivankutty, former mayor C Jayanbabu, district secretariat members and others were present.
LDF male councilors were asked to exercise restraint no matter how much the opposition creates a stir. The leaders said that there should not be any unnecessary provocation. If anything happens, it will put the party on the defense again. The ruling party has been directed to emphasize the crime branch investigation report that the Mayor's letter is fake and the corporation special council today. The plan is to start the CPM state secretariat campaign to bring out the truth in the Mayor's letter controversy from the Municipal Corporation. From the ruling party itself, opposition voices against the mayor had already been raised. It is suggested that the councillors should stand united without any such opposition.
