THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Leader of Opposition VD Satheesan has reacted against the statement made by Education Minister V Sivankutty on the plus one seat issue. VD Satheesan said that the Public Education Minister's statement that M K Muneer's satyagraha demanding that the shortage of plus one seats in Malabar should be resolved was only a demonstration was extremely substandard. The leader of the opposition said that the minister insulted MK Muneer, the highest leader of the Muslim League and former minister.
'It is an irresponsible and ridiculous response. Even after the minister made a statement in the assembly, the seat crisis in Malabar was not resolved. In this situation, Dr MK Muneer started the strike. As the Leader of the Opposition, I and Deputy Leader of the Opposition PK Kunhalikutty intervened in the matter and discussed with the Minister.
The Minister assured that the proposal of the MLAs in the constituencies with less seats will be considered and necessary courses will be allowed according to the facilities of the schools. Based on that Dr. Muneer ended the strike. It is unbecoming of a minister to insult those who were on the strike after the strike was called off based on the assurance given by the minister. After talking to the Minister of Public Education and the Leader of the Opposition and reaching an agreement, to come out and change the matter will affect the credibility of the Minister.
The minister's statement that M K Muneer did not submit a petition is a complete lie regarding the reduction of Plus One seats. On the 4th of this month, Munir has given a letter to the Minister of Public Education asking for the release of additional batches. When the facts are like this, the Minister who made a misleading statement should not lose the position he is sitting on'- VD Satheesan responded.
