NILAMBUR: The UDF has decided not to induct the Trinamool Congress (TMC) as a full-fledged constituent of the alliance, instead proposing associate membership. The decision was taken during the UDF coordination committee meeting held on Thursday. Sources said there was a broad consensus within the alliance that the TMC does not meet the criteria for full inclusion. The meeting also witnessed strong criticism against P.V. Anvar, who has recently been at odds with the front’s leadership.

Anvar, currently aligned with the TMC, was accused of creating discord by making public statements against Nilambur UDF candidate Aryadan Shoukath. According to UDF leaders, associate membership may still be considered for Anvar if he retracts his statements and extends support to Shoukath.

However, Anvar responded defiantly, indicating he would not accept the UDF’s decision. He is expected to publicly clarify his political stance on Friday morning.

UDF convener and MP Adoor Prakash confirmed that the final call on Anvar’s status will depend on his response. “The decision was communicated to him over the phone, and he has acknowledged it,” said Prakash.

Opposition Leader V.D. Satheesan, who took a firm position against Anvar's actions, received praise during the meeting for his leadership and clarity on the matter.
