THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Former KPCC chief Mullappally Ramachandran stepped forward after P V Anvar was made an associate member of the UDF. He said Anvar, who is joining the UDF, should exercise restraint and should not consider the front as a wayside inn. He clarified that the UDF should not become the last refuge of opportunists.
'It is difficult to bring everyone into the front. It is difficult to accept if everyone wants an MLA post. Therefore, it is never possible to look at the United Democratic Front as a rest house. Anvar should not speak against the party. He is responsible for preserving the dignity of the UDF,' said Mullappally.
He said that he does not know about Vishnupuram Chandrasekharan's Kerala Kamaraj Congress and that does not know who Vishnupuram Chandrasekharan is. Meantime, the Trinamool Congress led by P V Anvar and C K Janu's Democratic Political Party joined the UDF camp the other day. Although Anvar has a small influence in Nilambur, it was seen in the local elections that the Trinamool Party cannot do anything. The same is the case with C K Janu. However, being part of the front will strengthen it.
Although it was announced that Kerala Kamaraj Congress, the president of Vishnupuram Chandrasekharan, has joined the front, Chandrasekharan rejecting it is not seen as a big problem for the UDF. The doors are wide open for the Kerala Congress (M). There are indications that some other parties that are fellow travellers from the Left have also held unofficial talks with the UDF leaders.
