YouTuber and Bigg Boss star Jasmine Jaffar had recently landed in controversy after shooting reels in the sacred pond of Guruvayur temple. Filming videos in the pond, believed to be used for rituals to worship Lord Krishna, is strictly prohibited. Following this, the Devaswom and temple police received complaints, and Jasmine later issued an apology through social media. The issue had sparked widespread debate. Now, actor and dubbing artist Kris Venugopal has responded to the controversy.
Speaking in an interview with a YouTube channel, Kris said that reforms should not turn into foolishness. He added that reforms made for good should be welcomed, but traditions and customs must always be respected.
“Temples are places that follow rituals and traditions. Reform should not become foolishness. I am not saying that shooting a reel is wrong. But was it necessary to shoot it in that pond? There are so many other ponds available. It seems more like it was done just to gain attention. I respect all customs, regardless of religion. Reform does not mean deliberately breaking rules.
Earlier, the action of bringing a cake into Guruvayur and cutting it for reels had also stirred controversy. Following that, guidelines were issued regarding reel shooting. Reform comes as our knowledge grows. It should always lead towards goodness. Don’t show foolishness in the name of reform,” Kris Venugopal said.
Kris Venugopal had married serial actress Divya Sridhar last October, which had also sparked widespread criticism. “Many people comment asking why she married an older man. I don’t feel offended by it. In fact, seeing negative comments only gives me more motivation to live,” he added.
