ALAPPUZHA: Former minister and senior CPM leader has not renewed his 63-year-long party membership. In a protest post on Facebook, G Sudhakaran said district secretary R Nassar did not even inquire about how he worked when he came to the branch after 43 years of state committee membership. Sudhakaran penned that state secretary M V Govindan mockingly laughed as if he did not deserve any consideration when asked if he would be in the fray. Sudhakaran also clarified that he does not want these leaders in the party to face any difficulties.

His post
I did not submit an application to renew my membership during the 2026 membership scrutiny. Therefore, I did not have to pay the levy or subscription. In 2022, I was removed from the state committee. Since then, I have been functioning as a branch committee member under the Alappuzha DC. After suffering a fall and sustaining injury, except for one branch, attended all others regularly. Even after serving as a state committee member for 43 years and then working at the branch level, not once did the district secretary inquire about how I was doing. No complaints.

Despite having a 63-year history of party membership, the district secretary has not given me any public programmes over the past five years. Moreover, when the 50th anniversary of the Emergency was conducted at the EMS Hall near my house, I was not even invited. I am the only surviving person in the district who, during the early days of the Emergency, violated the ban, led a protest, was arrested, imprisoned, subjected to lock-up assault, and faced a BIR case. Not even an invitation was given to me. An LC member, who is a close disciple of a district committee member, even made a post criticizing my father. Despite all this, I have been continuing in the party here for the past five years. I did not yield to any temptation. It was at this time that I came to know that a person in the district leadership spoke inappropriately to a comrade from Thottappally who had gone to meet the party secretary.

Now, the state secretary himself, while answering a question at a press conference, made an inappropriate remark implying that I am not someone deserving of any consideration, and laughed mockingly. Saw the media burst into laughter hearing this. No one has been willing to question or correct this. I am not describing further incidents.

In this situation, I do not wish to continue in the party and create difficulty for the above-mentioned leaders. Therefore, during this membership scrutiny period, I have decided on my own not to renew my membership. I will continue to stand firmly with the masses in upholding the ideals and principles. Best wishes to all. Thank you.
