Kohli creates history, breaks Rohit Sharma's record in IPL

BENGALURU: Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) secured its second win in the ongoing IPL season by beating Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by 43 runs in the match held at Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Sunday. Batting first at their home ground, RCB amassed a whopping 250 runs in their 20 overs, thanks to some scintillating knocks by Devdutt Padikkal, captain Rajat Patidar and Tim David. Former skipper Virat Kohli scored 28 runs off 18 balls before being dismissed by Anshul Kamboj.

However, by the time he was dismissed, Kohli had already created a new record in his name. He broke Rohit Sharma's record to become the batter to score the most runs against a single opponent in the IPL. Kohli has now scored 1174 runs against CSK, surpassing Rohit’s 1161 runs against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). Kohli also holds the third position on this list, with 1159 runs against Punjab Kings (PBKS).

A crucial 99-run partnership between Tim David (70* off 25 balls) and captain Rajat Patidar (48* off 19 balls), along with strong contributions from Devdutt Padikkal (50 off 29 balls) and Phil Salt (46 off 30 balls), helped RCB reach the huge total of 250. In reply, Chennai Super Kings had a poor start. Captain Ruturaj Gaikwad (7), Ayush Mhatre (1), and Sanju Samson (9) were dismissed cheaply, leaving the team struggling at 30 runs.

Despite fighting knocks from Sarfaraz Khan (50 off 25 balls), Prashant Veer (43 off 29 balls), and all-rounder Jamie Overton (43 off 16 balls), CSK were bowled out for 207 runs with two balls remaining. Bhuvneshwar Kumar was the standout bowler for RCB, taking three wickets for 41 runs. CSK are currently placed tenth in the IPL points table.
