Kerala’s second metro rail to cost Rs 11,560 crore, project to get approval in June

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: After Kochi, Kerala's second metro rail project will become a reality in Thiruvananthapuram. Reports said the final DPR of the 46.7 km metro project, which will be built in two routes at a cost of Rs 11,560 crore, will be approved in June. The final DPR of the project has been prepared by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC).

According to the estimate prepared by DMRC in DRP, the cost of the first corridor from Technocity to Pallipuram will be Rs 7503.18 crore and Rs 4057.7 crore for the second corridor from Kazhakkoottam to Killipalam. A conventional metro similar to Kochi Metro will be implemented in Thiruvananthapuram. The Kochi Metro Rail Corporation handed over the DPR to the state government in February itself.

The overall project cost including civil, electrical, signalling, telecommunication, environmental protection, rehabilitation etc is Rs 11,560.8 crore. 25 stations are included in the 30.8 km route from Pallipuram Technocity to Pallichal, the first corridor. It will be a completely metro line running only on flyovers.

13 stations are envisaged on the 15.9 km second corridor from Kazhakootam to Killipalam. Of these, 11 stations will be on flyovers and two stations (East Fort Junction and Killipalam) will be underground. A high-level meeting was held under the chairmanship of former chief secretary K M Abraham to analyze the project on April 15.

DMRC will submit the final DPR to Kochi Metro Rail Corporation as soon as the election code of conduct is over. After this it will be submitted for final approval.
