Prime minister Narendra Modi turned a bit emotional while addressing the earthquake devasting Turkey and Syria. The PM went down the years to recall back the 2001 Bhuj earthquakes that left 20,000 dead and over 1,50,000 people getting injured. The prime minister was speaking to the BJP parliamentarians ahead of the start of today’s parliamentary proceedings. The Prime Minister said he can very well understand what Turkey and Syria are passing through in these trying times.
In 2001, Narendra Modi was the chief minister of Gujarat when a massive earthquake jolted Gujarat's Bhuj. Over 20,000 people lost their lives and over 1.5 lakh people were left injured. The epicenter was 20 km northeast of Bhuj in the Kutch district.
