THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: With the KSRTC getting 2,205 more buses, from the schemes of the central government and KIIFB and others, in the coming months, the daily collection will reach 10 crores. KSRTC will then have 6,000 buses and through the income generated they can be self-sufficient in salaries rather than seeking government aid.
If the buses can bring in Rs 315 crores per month, the additional collection amount will be 105 crores. Rs 63.5 crore shortfall can be overcome and the additional amount of Rs 41.5 crore can be utilized for the maintenance of buses.
Rs 900 crores have been allocated for pension and salary in the budget. The corporation does not have the capacity to undertake the pension liability. Rs 780 crores is required to pay pension for 12 months. The remaining Rs 120 crore is for salary. RTC takes Rs 50 crore from the government every month for salary.
