THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Home Department has intensified the process of sacking criminals in the police force. The DGP has directed the DIGs to take action against three officers. Kasaragod crime branch inspector Sivashankar, Thrikkakara Additional SI Girish Babu and Ayiroor former CI J Sanal will be sacked from the force. Notices have been issued to all three officers. The show cause notice was issued after a high-level meeting convened by the DGP decided to proceed with the action against police officers accused in criminal cases.

The proceedings to dismiss 12 accused in serious criminal cases, including these three, are in progress at the police headquarters. So far, four police officers accused in criminal cases have been dismissed from service. Following the publication of a report and a series by Kerala Kaumudi regarding the troublesome officers in the state police force, the Chief Minister ordered the DGP strict instructions to fire the criminals in the force.

Sivashankar is an officer who faced departmental action 21 times, including three criminal cases. He absconded from his office as soon as he got to know that he would be issued a show-cause notice. Later, the officials reached his house in Palakkad and issued the notice.

The DGP took the action rejecting Sivashankar's request to be exempted from punishment as he is retiring in May. They are continuing the process of sacking two more inspectors. A report on the dismissal of the three DySPs will be handed over to the Home Secretary next week.
