Govt hasn't decided to implement compulsory VRS in KSRTC: Minister Antony Raju

PALAKKAD: Transport Minister Antony Raju has said that the government has not decided to implement compulsory voluntary retirement scheme (VRS) in KSRTC. "There has been no discussion regarding this yet. A report is given to the Finance Department regarding the utilization of the funds of the departments. It will be checked whether the recommendations in the report submitted in this way have come out", the minister said.

The report had come out that there is a move to implement mandatory VRS in KSRTC and for this purpose the management has prepared a list of 7500 employees who are over 50 years of age. Rs 1100 crores will be required for this. The aim is to reduce the salary cost by 50 percent. The Finance Department had proposed to reduce the number of employees to 15,000. At present there are about twenty six thousand employees.
