If vigilance also deceives

vigilance

Although the vigilance is keeping its eyes open to catch the bribe takers, bribery is not decreasing but increasing in our state. The main reason for this is that most of those who give bribes do not care to file a complaint. Everyone is trying to get the job done and escape somehow. Thus, some departments where bribery has been turned into a birthright are flourishing here. Some are willing to file a complaint with the Vigilance only in the rare cases where bribes are taken again and again but the job is not done.

Punishment is almost certain in cases of being caught with bribe money. The job will be lost as well. When we approach Vigilance, we do not expect them to cheat us as well. The Vigilance DySP who let the accused free in a bribery case, by taking double the amount of the bribe the accused had taken, has brought great shame to the entire Vigilance Department. The escaping of the accused DySP during the raid at his house brought more disrepute to the vigilance. S Narayanan, who was the municipal secretary of Tiruvalla, and another employee were arrested for accepting a bribe of Rs 25,000 from a revenue-related demand by DySP Velayudhan Nair, who was in the vigilance department in Pathanamthitta at that time. But after Velayudhan Nair submitted a report to the vigilance court showing that this case was a mistake by the department, it was closed without further action.

50,000 rupees was transferred from Narayanan's bank account in Chengannur to Velayudhan Nair's son's bank account in Kazhakootam on September 30, 2021, to close the case by providing false information. This was discovered by a special team of vigilance on the basis of a confidential complaint. It was while raiding the house of Velayudhan Nair as part of this that the DySP escaped through the back of the house. Such police officers should not be kept in service even for a single day. Those who work in vigilance and take bribes to cover up a case should be treated as enemies of the people and action should be taken accordingly. Along with this, the vigilance department should also take steps to revive the case taken against the municipal secretary of Thiruvalla. Ensuring that this DySP is punished exemplarily, is essential to safeguard the credibility of the vigilance. Such bribery sinners must suffer the punishment for it.
