WASHINGTON: A pilot collapsed immediately after takeoff. A passenger who was a pilot stepped in and safely landed the plane. The incident took place on Southwest Airlines flight. The pilot felt unwell after the flight took off from Las Vegas in the US to Columbus, Ohio. Five minutes later, the pilot collapsed due to severe stomach pain.
The plane had to make an emergency landing in Las Vegas for medical attention. Following the incident, a pilot from another airline who was among the passengers stepped in to help and the flight landed safely. He was on vacation. Suddenly, he communicated with air traffic control and landed the plane with the co-pilot.
Southwest Airlines thanked the pilot for helping out at the critical moment. The plane was in the sky for one and a half hours. Then it landed safely. Later, the plane returned to Columbus. The Federal Aviation Administration has started an investigation into the incident.
