IDUKKI: A mock drill will be conducted on March 29 ahead of the efforts to capture rogue tusker 'Arikomban' which has been spreading fear in the populated area of Chinnakal area. The court had earlier stayed the mission of capturing the elephant until the 29th. The court took action on the plea of the animal protection organization claiming that it is unscientific to capture the elephant by using a tranquilizer dart.
Although the court had directed to consider alternatives other than capturing the elephant, the authorities have decided to go ahead with Mission Arikomban. As a part of this, the mock drill which was earlier scheduled to be held on March 25th has been shifted to March 29th. With the forest department deciding to go ahead with the preparations despite the temporary ban on capturing Arikomban, two more kumki elephants were brought to Chinnakanal. The forest department will continue with other measures other than using tranquilizer darts on the elephant.
