THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Huge fire charred the two-acre and more area covering MG college ground in Thiruvananthapuram. The classes were ongoing when the authorities noticed fire spreading in the ground. The fire force was alerted but in the meantime, the fire transpired to more areas. The grass and trees covering the two-acre ground got burned completely. The electric cable wires in the nearby areas were melted from the immense heat. It was the arduous work from three units of fire force that curtailed a big disaster. The mission started at 1:30 and went afar till 4 in the evening.
According to the fire force, the fire may have been caught by the garbage piled outside the college premise. The corporation workers normally burn the waste and leave the place ensuring that the fire is doused. However, the officers surmise it was the tree that is bent deep kissing the road which may have caught fire from the garbages piled. The students and faculties ran amok to open place as smoke started entering their classrooms. The college authorities have called for an internal investigation into the issue.
