Man commits suicide after killing wife and mentally disabled son

KOCHI: A 65-year-old man committed suicide after killing both his wife and mentally disabled son. The incident happened near Cheppanam in Ernakulam. Mani killed his wife Sarojini (58) and his son Manoj (36) before hanging to death.

It was relative and neighbor Indira who first noticed a certain usefulness in the home while returning from her early morning errand to purchase milk. Manoj was seen lying down on the floor. Indira alerted her son and barged through the house. The police came later and shifted the dead bodies to Kalamasery Medical College.

Mani retired as a coolie in supply co. He nowadays sold the lottery to earn a living. Manoj meanwhile had mental troubles and often attacked his parents. It was through the help of the police that the fights were often resolved. The neighbors said about loud fights between father and son yesterday late into the night. Nobody cared big since the practice has turned normal and everyone was used to it. However, Mani had other plans and killed both Manoj and Sarojini in haste. Both bodies were found lying on the floor. The police have also found deep wounds in the neck of the two.

Mani and the family lived in a modest shed-built home. The financial straits were too much to handle for the family. They also have another son.
