KALPETTA: BSNL has disconnected the free internet and telephone connections to the office of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in Wayanad following his disqualification as a Lok Sabha member. The action was taken on Thursday evening. Sources close to BSNL hinted that the free internet and phone connections were disconnected after receiving special instruction from Delhi. However, no orders or documents were handed over in this regard.
The Lok Sabha Secretariat had disqualified Rahul Gandhi as an MP on March 24 after he was sentenced to two years in jail by the Surat Court. Following this, Rahul had to move out of his official residence in Delhi. The Congress has raised strong protests against such actions taken by the Centre while the higher court is set to consider the appeal filed by Rahul. The party has decided to use the actions of the Centre as a weapon against the BJP in its election campaigns for the upcoming Karnataka assembly polls and the Lok Sabha polls.
