KOZHIKODE: Muslim League leader KM Shaji said that some people began projecting him as a fraud and a problematic person after he said that zakat share should not be given to the Chief Minister's Distress Relief Fund. He said that he is happy that the case against him was quashed in the holy month of Ramadan. He also said that this false case was the reason behind his defeat in the Azhikode constituency.

"The Distress Relief Fund is not at all credible. I said no when they asked to donate Zakat to the Distress Relief Fund. That day, the CM made a big deal out of that Facebook post by reading it out in front of the media. That is when the case began. Shaji was portrayed as a fraud and a problematic person. I'm happy that the case against me was quashed in the holy month of Ramadan. I had said that day that the distress relief fund was grossly misappropriated. The cases are still going on and I was ousted," Shaji said.

'Ahead of the elections, they tortured me by creating a false case. This false case was behind my defeat in the Azhikode constituency. A person who spread lies against me won the election. The CPM should examine the morality in his victory. I'm not asking him to resign. However, he should at least tender an apology," Shaji added.
