THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Cantonment Police registered a case and started an investigation into the leak of the security plan, that was prepared by the Intelligence ADGP and handed over to the Chief Minister's office in connection with the Prime Minister's visit.

The case is under Section (5) of the Official Secrets Act which is a special act and on the instructions of the DGP of Police. It is inferred that the report was leaked from the Secretariat where the office of the Chief Minister, who is in charge of the Home Ministry as well, is located. Although a case was registered, the police did not call or approach anyone to record statements or collect information.

With the Prime Minister facing severe security challenges, the leak of the security plan has been taken very seriously by the central government and central security agencies. After the leak of the report, the PM's security duties were completely under the control of the SPG and the Central Intelligence Bureau. The SPG chief and senior officials arrived in Kerala to direct the security measures at the Prime Minister's venues. The State Police was assigned only the strenuous jobs like police line, crowd control and vehicle control. The Central Intelligence Bureau has handed over a preliminary report on the security plan leak to the Union Home Ministry. A detailed report has been requested from the Deputy Director in charge of IB Kerala.

Under the Special Act, leaking secrets related to the security of VVIPs is an offense punishable with imprisonment of up to three years and a fine.
