‘Will cooperate with investigation’, Xiaomi India on eight-year-old girl’s death as phone explodes

THRISSUR: Xiaomi India has responded to the incident in which an eight-year-old girl died due to mobile phone explosion. “At Xiaomi India, customer safety is of utmost importance, and we take such matters extremely seriously. We stand by the family in this difficult time and hope to support them in every possible way. We will work with the authorities to ascertain the actual cause of the incident and support them in any necessary matter,” said the company spokesperson.

Eight-year-old Adithyashree died yesterday after a mobile phone exploded. The reason for the explosion is considered to be the heating up of the battery due to overuse. Adithyashree, the only daughter of former panchayat member Ashok Kumar and Soumya of Pattiparambu Kunnathu Veettil. She was a third-class student of Christ New Life School.

The incident happened on Monday at 10:30 pm The girl and grandmother were in the house. The phone exploded while she was watching video. She was seriously injured in the face and the head. As per the post-mortem report, the cause of the death was an injury on the head.

Redmi 5 Pro phone bought by Adithyashree’s uncle three years ago from Palakkad had exploded. Last year, the battery was given for replacement at the Redmi service centre in Palakkad. The service centre informed that they had replaced it with company battery. The forensic department found that the phone was not charging at the time of the accident.
