KOZHIKODE: Renowned film director V M Vinu on Thursday alleged that Malayalam cinema did not give the late actor Mamukkoya the respect he deserved. Vinu said that although he thought that many people from the film industry would come to pay their respects to Mamukkoya, only very few turned up.

"The fact that many prominent people did not come here was disrespectful towards Mamukkoya. Many people from the film industry would have come had he gone and died in Ernakulam," Vinu said. He also scoffed that he would try to die in Ernakulam.

None of the big stars in the industry came to Kozhikode to pay their respects to Mamukkoya. Only a few stars, including Joju George, Irshad, Sadiq, Vinod Kovoor, Nirmal Palazhi and Surabhi Lakshmi, came. Edavela Babu came on behalf of AMMA. Among the directors, only Sathyan Anthikad came to pay last respect to the legendary actor. All this led to criticism.

Mamukkoya breathed his last at a private hospital in Kozhikode on Wednesday afternoon.
