NEW DELHI: Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh opened to resigning from the chief of the wrestling federation of India post after the wrestler's protest in Delhi garnered momentum. “ I respect the apex court and I am nobody to question the decisions taken by the court,“ Singh told the media.
Today, solicitor general Tushar Mehta assured the supreme court about the Delhi police registering a case against Singh by evening. The wrestlers lauded the move and said it was the first step to victory. Singh meanwhile dismissed any wrongdoings on his part but said will resign from the post if demanded.
Supreme court led by a bench of chief justice D Y Chandrachud heard the case today which hangs loose the plights of India's elite wrestlers. The court asked the Delhi police to provide protection to the women wrestlers since Singh is a popular name and can easily weave out plans to inflict harm.
The supreme court will consider again the case against Singh next Friday.
