Nine students commit suicide within 48 hours after declaration of exam results

HYDERABAD: Nine students committed suicide in Andhra Pradesh after failing to clear the intermediate exams. The results of the intermediate first year and second year were declared on Wednesday. Two other students, who attempted suicide, are undergoing treatment.

Nearly 10 lakh students had appeared for the examinations. The pass percentage for the first year was 61 and the second year was 72.

The deceased students are Srikakulam native B Tarun, Visakhapatnam natives Akhilasree, B Jagadeesh, Chittoor natives Anusha, Babu and Anakapalli native T Kiran.

Meanwhile, reports are claiming that suicide cases are on the rise in premier colleges in India. According to a report, four students committed suicide on various campuses of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) this year.

On February, Chief Justice DY Chandrachud had expressed concern over the suicide of the students.
