PARIS: Footballer Lionel Messi has been suspended for two weeks without pay for his recent trip to Saudi Arabia without the club’s permission. He was suspended by Paris Saint Germain (PSG) for visiting Saudi Arabia without informing the club.

Messi cannot train, cannot play, and will not be paid while disciplinary measures are in place. Messi had sought permission to travel to Saudi Arabia, but was refused. Action was taken against him for the visit. Messi is the brand ambassador of Saudi Arabian tourism.

The Saudi Arabian tourism department Minister had the other day tweeted on Messi’s trip to Saudi Arabia. ‘Welcoming Messi to Diriyah, the land of traditions, heritage and history. Leo Messi, his wife Antonella and his sons Mateo and Ciro had an enjoyable tour where they learned about the history of Saudi and met its generous and hospitable people in At-Turaif.’
