SURAT: Surat Diamond Bourse, a diamond trading centre that is the world’s largest corporate building is all set for inauguration. The Pentagon, the defense headquarters of the US, is currently the largest office building with 65 lakh square feet area. The building complex built at Khajod in Surat has 67.28 lakh square feet area in 35.54 acres. It includes nine towers each with 15 floors.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will do the inauguration this month and Surat will become the centre of diamond trade in India. Mumbai held this title centuries ago. 92 percent of the diamonds traded in the country are polished in Surat. Considering the financial liability and security threat of transporting diamonds worth crores of rupees to Mumbai which is 250 km away, the diamond traders' association and the Khajod Development Authority built the corporate headquarters. It has also received Platinum Green Certificate, the highest recognition for green building.

Diamond producers and traders have acquired the entire space in the complex, which started construction in 2019.
