Ban, controversy, debates; 'The Kerala Story' collects Rs 80 crore in one weeks time

'The Kerala story' remains controversial. The Sudipto Sen-directed movie was banned in West Bengal after CM Mamata Banerjee accused the movie of spewing religious hate. Tamil Nadu also followed suit with theatre owners canceling shows fearing a law and order situation. The volatile subject the movie discuss was a topic of debate all over the country for weeks. Whatever the quibbles, the movie in just one week's time has grossed over Rs 80 crore at the box office.

The filmmaker Sudipto Sen regaled the achievement saying it was a 'blessing'. According to movie insiders, the film will reach the Rs 100 crore collection tomorrow. States including UP, Haryana, and Madhya Pradesh reduced the tax, only for 'The Kerala Story'. More than 60 lakh people have watched the movie in theatres. Sudipto Sen said the move will be released in 40 more countries in the coming days.
