NEW DELHI: Karnataka DGP Praveen Sood has been appointed as Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for a period of two years. He will succeed present director Subodh Kumar Jaiswal, whose term ends on May 25.
The new CBI director was announced after a high-powered committee meet comprising Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Supreme Court Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud and leader of opposition in Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chaudhary.
Apart from the new CBI director, the high-powered committee also discussed the appointment of a new chief vigilance commissioner and member, Lokpal.
Born in 1964, Praveen Sood graduated from IIT, Delhi. He is a 1986 batch IPS officer. He started his career as an Assistant Superintendent in Mysore in 1989. He then held many important positions.
