Bypolls in 19 local wards; LDF and UDF get nine seats each, BJP loses one seat

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Both the LDF and the UDF have nine seats each in the bypolls held in 19 local wards of the state. The BJP managed to capture the sitting seat of the LDF.


The bypolls were held in two corporations, two municipalities and fifteen gram panchayat wards in nine districts. Out of these, nine seats were sitting seats of the LDF, seven seats of UDF and two seats of the BJP.

Thiruvananthapuram
The LDF retained the sitting seat in Muttada in the municipal corporation. CPM's Ajith Ravindran defeated the Congress candidate for 203 votes.
The Congress retained its sitting seat in Kanara of Pazhyakunnummel gram panchayat. Congress's Aparna defeated CPM's Revathi VL for 12 votes.

Kollam
The LDF has captured the sitting seat of BJP in Thazhamel ward of Anchal grama panchayat. CPI's G Somarajan defeated BJP's Babul Dev for 264 votes.

Pathanamthitta
The Congress captured the fifth ward of Mylapra Grama Panchayat, which was the sitting seat of the CPM. Congress' Jessy Varghese defeated CPM’s Sherin B Joseph for 76 votes.

Alappuzha
The LDF retained Municipal Office Ward, the LDF sitting seat of Cherthala Municipal Council. Left independent Aji won.

Kottayam
The Congress retained the Puthenthodu sitting seat in the Municipal Council. Susan K Xavier won by 75 votes.

The CPM retained Mukkada sitting seat in Manimala Grama Panchayat. Suja Babu won by 127 votes.

The CPM captured Perunnilam, the sitting seat of Janapaksham in Poonjar Grama Panchayat. Bindhu Ashokan won by 12 votes.

Ernakulam
The CPM captured Thulusserikavala in Nellikuzhi grama panchayat, which was the sitting seat of BJP. Arun C Govindan won by 99 votes.

Palakkad
The UDF retained Bammannur, the UDF sitting seat in Peringottukurishi grama panchayat.

The UDF captured Parayamballam, which was the CPM sitting seat in Muthalamada grama panchayat.

The LDF retained their sitting seat Akalur East ward of Lakkidi Perur grama panchayat.

The BJP captured Kallamala in Kanjirapuzha grama panchayat, the sitting seat of LDF.

The UDF retained the sitting seat Kappadam of Karimba Grama Panchayat. Neethuraj defeated CPM candidate by 189 votes.

Kozhikode
The UDF retained Chelia Town, the UDF sitting seat in Chengottukavu grama panchayat. Abdul Shukur of Congress won by 112 votes.


The CPM captured the UDF sitting seat Kanalad in Puthupadi grama panchayat. CPM candidate Ajitha Manoj won for 154 votes.


The LDF retained the sitting seat of Kurichakam in Velam grama panchayat.

Kannur
The UDF retained the sitting seat Pallipram in the Municipal Corporation. UDF candidate A Umaiba won with a majority of 1015 votes.
