KASARGOD: Five radical Hindu group members were arrested for moral policing and manhandling three Malayali students in Manglore’s Someshwara beach. One among the arrested is a minor. Yathish, Sachin, Suhas, and Akhil were the arrested workers of the group. All are natives of Ullal. The students were from Kannur and Kasargod districts. According to police, the gang followed the students and later caught them near the beach. The male students were beaten badly while the girls escaped in fear. It was only after the police intrusion that the students were rushed to hospitals. All are students from Para medical college in Manguluru.
IPC 307 has been used against the gang for murder attempts. After Thursday’s incident, patrolling has been ramped up in Someshwara Beach. Meanwhile, Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah responded to the case and said moral policing gangs will see their last days in Karnataka in the coming months.
Meanwhile, BJP leader Sathish Kumpala reached the police station along with a cavalcade of Hindu activists to protest against the arrest of Hindu workers. “ It is a revered spot. the students of other religions came there and engaged in intimate things. The workers protested a questioned them as it is not the place for private things. ”
