THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Two Malayalee college teachers have developed an effective nanomedicine to treat lung cancer. It was discovered by Dr. John Jacob, Head of Physics Department, Mar Evanios College, Thiruvananthapuram, and Prof B Jyotish, Assistant Professor, Physics Department, Varkala Sivagiri Sree Narayana College. Technical support for the research was provided by the Center for Research on Molecular and Applied Sciences. The next step is to conduct experiments on animals and then on humans.
Metallic nanoparticles with their unique morphology and surface energy can be absorbed into cells and effectively eliminate cancer cells in the body. Cancer cells spread quickly and the disease becomes serious, which is a challenge posed by lung cancer. Nanoparticles can be effective against lung cancer. It does not harm non-cancerous cells. The research results have been published in Inorganic Chemistry Communications, an international research journal.
